Hess Announces $175,000 Grant for Bedford County Development Association

Rep. Dick Hess (R-Bedford/Fulton/Huntingdon), Republican chairman of the House Commerce Committee, today announced that the Bedford County Development Association (BCDA) has been awarded a Business In Our Sites (BOS) grant in the amount of $175,000 from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) for use in Business Parks I and II.

“I am pleased that this money is being invested in economic development projects to help strengthen our economy and put us on the road to recovery,” Hess said.  “Bedford County stands to benefit greatly from this infusion of cash, which will ultimately help to return family-sustaining jobs to our area.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), within in the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), was established as an independent agency of the Commonwealth to administer Pennsylvania’s economic stimulus packages.

The grant, which will be matched locally with $7,500, will enable BCDA to create pad-ready sites fully permitted from an environmental storm water and local land development standpoint.

“Since BCDA will already have the sites approved through the environmental process, which can typically take up to nine months, any perspective industry would be able to begin construction by simply applying for a building permit,” Hess said.  “This saves a considerable amount of time and money to be redirected to other stages of the project.”

He noted that by working together, the local townships, boroughs, school districts and the county have designated the business parks as Keystone Opportunity Zones (KOZs), which have proven successful in the recruitment of new companies and the expansion of existing businesses.

“It’s great to have everyone working cooperatively to create economic development opportunities for the residents of Bedford County,” Hess said.
