Hess Appointed to House Rules Committee

Rep. Dick Hess (R-Bedford/Fulton/Huntingdon) today announced his recent appointment by House Republican Leader Rep. Sam Smith (R-Jefferson/Indiana/Armstrong) to serve on the House Rules Committee.

“I am honored to have been chosen by Representative Smith to be a member of the Rules Committee,” Hess said.  “I look forward to engaging in meaningful debate and voicing my concerns to members of the committee.”

The Rules Committee is the most powerful House committee and is reserved for legislative leaders and senior legislators who work together to oversee the legislative process.  The committee makes recommendations to improve and expedite the business and procedures of the House and proposes amendments to the rules of the House, as needed.  In addition, the committee adopts guidelines for the expenditure of all funds appropriated to the House or to any member or nonmember officer.

The Rules Committee is also charged with reviewing legislation that returns to the House that has been amended by the Senate.

“As the 2010 legislative session gets under way, I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure legislation brought to the floor of the House is beneficial to Pennsylvania citizens,” Hess said.
