HARRISBURG – To help constituents better understand Pennsylvania’s gun laws, three state legislators will host a free seminar about concealed carry laws and Second Amendment rights in Bedford County next month.
Reps. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-Bedford/Somerset) and Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Franklin/Fulton) and Sen. Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-35) will hold the seminar on Tuesday, April 11, from 6-8 p.m. at the Shawnee Valley Volunteer Fire Company,
3885 Pitt St. in Schellsburg.
“These events have proven to be an effective way to educate gun owners about the laws and responsibilities related to owning a firearm,” Langerholc said. “We have no doubt this event will feature another thoughtful discussion regarding our Second Amendment rights, the process to acquire a concealed carry permit and individual cases and concerns.”
In addition to the legislators, numerous members of the law enforcement community will speak about gun laws during the seminar. The featured speakers are Bedford County District Attorney Bill Higgins, Bedford County Sheriff Charwin Reichelderfer and State Police Trooper Matthew Long.
“Having District Attorney Higgins, Sheriff Reichelderfer and Trooper Long as speakers provides a great opportunity for attendees to ask questions about our gun laws. These folks have real-world, firsthand experience enforcing the laws and hold a wealth of knowledge,” Topper said. “It is critical for gun owners to understand their rights and responsibilities in order to avoid the risk of legal trouble.”
Additional information will be available at the event regarding permit application, arms storage and identification, Pennsylvania’s Castle Doctrine law, and much more. The seminar will also include a question-and-answer portion.
“Our liberty is only as good as our ability to protect it and our Founders certainly understood this when they provided us with constitutional protections to keep and bear arms. This event makes sure that we know our rights when it comes to defending ourselves and our freedom,” Metzgar said.
Seating is limiting and registration is required. Those interested in attending should contact Metzgar’s office at (814) 842-3362 or register online at
