Topper Named to Five Key Committees
1/24/2019
HARRISBURG – Rep. Jesse Topper (R-Bedford/Franklin/Fulton) has been appointed to serve on five key House committees, including the Appropriations Committee, for the 2019-20 session. In addition, Topper will also serve on the Education, Judiciary, Liquor Control and Rules committees.

“I am honored to have been appointed to the Appropriations Committee, which drives budget and spending policy in the Commonwealth,” Topper said.

With a large portion of the yearly budgets directed toward education, Topper’s fiscal knowhow will be an essential ingredient for the Education Committee, which works on state issues involving public and private schools, as well as post-secondary education. The Rules Committee, which includes Speaker Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny) and Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) as members, is tasked with making recommendations to improve and expedite procedures of the House and its committees.

As a member of the Judiciary Committee, Topper will focus on issues and legislation relating to the Judicial Code, the Crimes Code and the Domestic Relations Code, as well as issues with identity theft, firearms laws, domestic violence, child abuse laws, state prisons and criminal law. The Liquor Control Committee is responsible for issues relating to the administration of alcoholic beverage licenses and the sale and distribution of alcoholic beverages.

“I look forward to taking up my posts on these important committees as the session truly gets underway,” Topper said.

Topper will also serve as a deputy whip this session. Deputy whips have diverse tasks, including ensuring members attend session, whipping up support for key pieces of legislation and informing their fellow Republican colleagues on upcoming policy issues.
